Changing jobs isn't always as easy as emptying your desk drawer. You will have questions about your rights, responsibilities and worth.

Does my superannuation automatically transfer to my new employer?

When you start work with a new employer you will be asked if you want to choose a new super fund or have your contributions paid into your current fund. The Australian Securities and Investments Commission website has information about superannuation and changing jobs.

What is the average industry salary for someone with my experience?

Negotiating your salary with a new employer can be daunting. You can boost your confidence by knowing your worth before starting negotiations by researching average earnings by occupations.

Does the new WorkChoices workplace relations system affect me?

Up to 85% of Australian employees will be covered by the Federal Government's WorkChoices. Information about changes to the workplace relations system can be obtained from the WorkChoices website.

Will I be eligible for maternity/paternity leave with my new employer?

The standard award entitlement for parental leave applies to full-time and regular part-time male and female employees with 12 months continuous employment. It provides a total maximum of 52 weeks unpaid leave on a shared basis to care for a newly born or newly adopted child (under the age of 5 years). The entitlement is reduced by any period of leave taken by a spouse.

Employees on parental leave have a right to return to their former position when returning to full time work. More information about parental leave entitlements is available from the WorkChoices website.
